I hooked it up and the unit sent a signal back to the dash with a series of flashes using the check engine light indicator. Looked up the problem codes and replaced the part (over $200.00 US) that was the the probable cause and the problem resurfaced. The unit is not equipped with accurate data read outs to give you enough data. Using the unit on my 1987 Supra was a waste of time and money.



This item is for older Japanese cars, but very useful if you have one. The package only contains a manual that tells you how to recover the codes on cars it applies to, what the codes mean and a few tools (jumpers,etc) necessary if they are called for. The system worked as advertised, and Actron shipped promptly.


If you open up the Actron CP9025 you will see the only thing it does is short two contacts so the trouble light on the dash will flash the stored codes. If you have the codes for your vehicle then you do not need the book that comes with the Actron CP9025. If you do not have the codes, then the book may be worth paying for the "scanner". You can do as much with a paperclip as you can with this misnamed product.

This product is a good buy. It has a nice easy to read screen, easy to use and comes with a through manual. It all the adapters to test all the cars I have worked on so far. It also comes with a very nice carrying case. The only draw back is that it can not read codes while the car is running. Other than that it is a great buy.

I am kind of a freelance mechanic with better than average knowledge of automobiles. I recommend that anyone who is willing to do their own work on cars own one of these. Save yourself and friends the dealer costs of diagnosing engine problems. This model in particular is extremely easy to use on all vehicles with the OB1 and OB2 systems. The money you save will easily pay for this scanner.


GREAT INVESTMENT for the man who still like to do his own work on his cars. Plug it in and read the code-fix the problem-reset the car computer and reset the check engine light. NO more guess work. My husband loves it.


This is the easiest piece of diagnostic equipment to use that I have and if you can read you can find the problem. Price was right also.


I have used this product several times and have like how it performs, and I do recommend it to others. It is easy to use and has a nice feature for the OBD-II that it can tell you most of the manufactor specific definitions to their codes.


I like the self help type tools to save money this is one of them. Thanks amazon.


This is the first scanner I've ever owned, and I found it to be easy to use and easy to understand. When I had a question I emailed their tech support and got a reply that even I could understand within an hour. In addition to our late-model car, I used it to check an older model (1985 Ford Ranger) equipped with OBD1, and the accompanying adaptor worked perfectly. I'm very happy with this product.

I am using this timing light on a MSD Ignition and it works great. I would recommend this for anyone.


The timing light failed to function. Connector pins in handle did not appear to be assembled correctly. Screws in housing had heads stripped. Made in the USA, quality of manufacture poor.


I am very pleased with my timing light. It says on the ads that it is for 12v systems, I use mine on my 6v vehicles and it works!

The Actron p-9185 worked good when I first received it. But it always showed a low battery reading. The device came with an usb cable to do updates. When I tried to do the update with the software they provided with the device it went blank and would not turn on anymore. Now it is in the repair-shop to be fixed with the only explanation that my anti-virus may have caused this problem. With unsuccessful e-mails and phone calls to the repair shop I finally found out that they were three weeks behind in repairs. I still don't know when I'm getting it back.


This is the best to come yet! I'm selling my Actronscanner CP9145 to a mechanic . With this Upgrade you'll earn the title as a techician. The Actron CP9185 has reached far beyond my expectations. I used it today for the first time, considering I was curious about the back lit display.
Pior to operating the scan tool I download the firmware update. I didn't see the back lit display when powering on. Only to view a normal display similar my Actron CP9145. Now don't get me wrong, this was a great investment & still is . However, the CP9185 Elite superceeds all earlier Actron scanners to my view. With all the features O2 monitors, temp. reading & graphing data, etc. What more can one ask for? For those that can't make the repairs themselve, knowing whats the problems are intimidates auto repair shops. I gave it a 5 star because its easy to operate, the codes are strait forward. Now remember this the CD is a must have that is included with a New CP9185 Autoscanner. I attempted to purchase one on ebay, I did'nt win the bid. Only later to know that the CD was not included. Without that no upgrade is considered & the manual is included on the CD. In conclusion, all I'm saying is simply this a must have Autoscanner. The name Elite is what it is.


Only had this for a day so I have not explored all options, but I've used Actron scanners for years now - they are awesome for weekend warriors. They don't have all of the functionality of the Snap-On, Matco and OEM scanners - but Actron's scanners are fast, simple and reliable. Perfect for those of us that need a scanner but can't justify spending $1500-$15,000 on the high end stuff.

I've used the full gambit of scanners, and these little orange things do about 80% of what the big boys do, for a fraction of the price.

Keep in mind that no scanner will fix the car for you, if you really don't know your way around modern electronic controls and automotive service, this will not help you.


The CP9185 works exactly as expected with one exception. It does accurately provide the diagnostic codes for trouble-shooting and will clear (turn-off) the "Repair Soon" light if you wish. It seems to have an extensive built-in database that allows it to recognize most vehicles - both domestic and imported. The operation of the unit is straight-forward and simple. However, the internal database on the unit I received contains data only through model year 2002. Vehicles manufactured after that date would have required an update to the built-in database. Updating over the internet is one of the features that attracted me to this unit. The problem occured when I tried to install the PC drivers that would allow the unit to communicate with my computer - something that is necessary to perform an on-line update. The drivers provided with the unit simply would not work - i.e., the PC would not recognize the drivers on the supplied CD as valid drivers for my CP9185. I am very familiar with computers and installing drivers for a unit like this is straight forward. I contacted technical support (in fact I spoke with them about 4 times) to try to work through the problem. Technical support personnel were friendly and responsive - I have only the highest praise for them - but they were unable to solve the problem. They finally told me that it appeared the CP9185 itself was defective in that it was probably identifying itself incorrectly to the PC - even though the unit appeared to work fine in every other respect. I have shipped the unit back for repair (my expense) and am told it will take 4-6 weeks for repairs to be completed. If it had not been for this problem, I would have rated the CP9185 as a full 5 stars. If and when the unit is returned to me in working order, I will update this review.


Bought the CP9185 Autoscanner. Pluged it into my 2001 Tacoma and read the codes. Looked up what to do to repair the codes. Did it and then reread the codes and they were gone. Great tool to let you know what is going on with your vehicle. Gives you a chance to fix things your self, saving you big bucks. Haven't had the scanner real long and do not know how to use all the features yet, but would recommend it to anyone wanting to know what their codes are. It was very easy to use. You have to have a computer so you can print out the operations manual.

I was enticed to look/buy the Actron CP7672 Multimeter as it was presented as a $30 item, on sale for $15. I found it to be of the same characteristics as multimeters found everywhere in the $15 to $20 range. It wasn't what I was expecting it to be - a better quality multimeter.


This multitester is a great product. It's simple to use, especially for testing circuits, batteries, even continuity. Despite some other negatives from other reviewers, get this product. The price and quality are good. One small complaint: The instruction booklet could be a little clearer on what each setting does.


The price is right, but the meter isn't anything special. I bought it to put in my camper to check the occasional bad fuse, open circuit, test polarity, etc. and it does the job. It requires a 9v battery (not included) which means that the cost of batteries will be more than the cost of the meter before too long. Also, you have to have a small phillips screw driver to replace the battery. The manual is the barest possible and some functions (at least as it appears) aren't even explained. But, for the standard stuff that I bought it for, it works well. It is compact, but not as small as some others. Overall, it is sufficient.
